Bahamas Adventures - Sailing Around the Islands in The Bahamas

Gabriella Gerbasi November 5, 2020

These past few months I’ve had the incredible opportunity to go sailing around The Bahamas. At first, I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into but little did I know I would meet amazing people who share a passion for the ocean, learn about sharks, underwater photography, fish (catching it, preparing it, cooking it), sailing and myself.

It was a little scary to leave alone during a pandemic, my first trip in 5 months, to a place I had never been with people I didn’t know, however I’m so glad I took the leap and went ahead with it. I truly had to step out of my comfort zone but I couldn’t be more grateful because it was a life-changing experience.

We started off in Nassau and set sails towards the Exumas and Ragged Island. I ended up spending a total of 5 weeks on the boat, adventuring and exploring the islands.

I don’t even know where to start since this was such an epic adventure. To give you an idea, here are a few things we did during our travels.

  • We swam with sharks

  • Explored shipwrecks

  • Saw wild pigs and iguanas

  • Worked out on the beach

  • Caught and ate fresh fish and lobster

  • Explored grottos

  • I got my PADI freediving certification

  • & much more!

About the Boat

The boat, Boom Sharkalaka, was a 1998 46’ Beneteau Oceanis 461, a liveaboard with three berths and queen size beds. The boat is super clean and spacious, there are two bathrooms and a full kitchen.

As for food, you have to do groceries before leaving Nassau and cook three meals a day. If you get a chance to have a private chef I would recommend doing so, this way you can really enjoy the day without having to meal prep.

About the Captain - David Langlois

G0289809.JPG

Captain David Langlois, originally from Montreal, he moved to the Bahamas six years ago to escape the city life and live on his boat.

Combining his love for freediving and modeling he promotes ocean conservation and spreads awareness through underwater photography.

David’s an amazing adventure guide, qualified captain and freediving instructor. He knows all the best secret spots and will make sure you have the time of your life!

I believe sailing and living on a boat is truly the best way to experience the magic of The Bahamas. You really feel immersed in nature and have the freedom to go wherever you want. So grab your friends and family and sail some of the most beautiful islands in the world.

No matter where you live, we are all connected to the ocean in some way. Even if you’re far from the coast, the actions we take on land—such as reducing plastic use, conserving water, and supporting ocean conservation efforts—directly impact the health of our seas. Every bit counts, and it’s up to all of us to make a difference. 🌊

Happy World Wildlife Day 2025: Investing in People and Planet
Mar 3, 2025

As someone deeply connected to the ocean, World Wildlife Day has special meaning for me. Over the last few years, I’ve been fortunate enough to have some of the most incredible encounters with marine animals—humpback whales breaching in the distance, manta rays gracefully gliding past me, sharks weaving through coral, and vibrant ecosystems teeming with life. Each of these experiences has strengthened my connection to the ocean and deepened my commitment to protecting the creatures that call it home.

Honeymoon Adventures in Fiji and Christmas in Australia
Jan 2, 2025

Our honeymoon in Fiji was nothing short of incredible. We flew halfway across the world for the elusive dogtooth tuna, but what we found was so much more than we imagined. Pristine waters, vibrant coral reefs, and an ocean full of life both above and below the surface. We dove Rainbow Reef and saw some of the most beautiful reefs I’ve ever experienced—so much life on the bommies, it was a truly magical underwater world. 🐠

Make Waves: The Importance of Coastal Cleanup on International Coastal Cleanup Day
Sep 21, 2024

Beach clean-ups are essential for preserving our oceans and protecting marine life, but it’s important to remember that sustainability is a journey we can all embark on, no matter how imperfectly. We often think that to make a difference, we must achieve perfection, but the reality is that many people taking small, imperfect actions can collectively lead to significant change.
