TAKING ACTION

I always wondered why somebody didn’t do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody.

Compassion and giving don't have to involve getting on a plane and building houses and it doesn't just mean giving money. It can also be donating ''skills''.

Giving can be as simple as giving joy to others - sharing our talents and skills to help them tap into their own ability to experience wonder.

MY LIFE IN SHADES OF BLUE│PHOTOGRAPHY & OCEAN CONSERVATION

Just in time to celebrate World Oceans Month/Day and my birthday, My Life in Shades of Blue - A Visual Story of a Girl & her Ocean is my first photography book.

What you see in my photos is exactly how I experience the ocean. My goal with this project was to illustrate that feeling through photography, raising awareness about the oceans and giving back by donating part of the profits from this book to ocean conservation charities.

LET’S BOND FOR MENTAL HEALTH

20191018-Lets-Bond-2019-3164-1.jpg

I have been supporting Let's Bond at the Urban Ball for the past 2 years. Let's Bond is a Montreal collective of young professionals creating unforgettable events and dialogue around mental illness. Since 2011, Let's Bond has raised over $1,390,000 to support local mental health outreach programs and research. In addition to the net proceeds from their two annual fundraisers, 100% of the money received through donations and sponsorships goes directly to Fondation jeunes en tête and the Douglas Foundation to support mental health research and awareness.

SIGNED A PETITION TO #STOPSEAFOODFRAUD IN CANADA

1016_city_fish-w.jpg

Seafood fraud has been found in 47% of samples tested across Canada.

The petition started by Oceana is calling on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to take the lead on implementing full boat-to-plate traceability for all seafood sold in Canada, working alongside all government departments responsible for the integrity of Canada’s seafood supply chain.

All fish sold in Canada should be legally caught, honestly labelled and fully traceable.

I JOINED THE PLASTICS PETITION ON WWF

Plastics Campaign WWF

Let’s stop plastics choking our oceans – and harming people and nature! We urgently need a global legally binding agreement that involves every country in ending this crisis by 2030. (see more)

As consumers, in addition to taking steps to reduce our use of disposable plastic where possible, it’s also important to make our voices heard and show businesses and governments that we all need to act now. Together, let’s continue working for a better future for nature and people.

STOP OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING IN THE BAHAMAS

The Bahamas is an ocean nation, with remarkable marine resources and wildlife that have supported local industry and brought visitors from around the world.

But a new oil drilling project could change that. And it’s starting in a matter of months. Just one accident, one spill, can devastate marine systems in the region and the foundation of the economy, employment, food sources, recreation, culture, and the Bahamian way of life.

Join me in urging @minnis_dr to stop oil drilling in The Bahamas on @onlyone

WATERAX & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Parcours Développement Durable Montréal Gabriella Gerbasi

I represented WATERAX in the “Le Parcours Développement Durable Montréal” or “Montreal Path to Sustainable Development” to help our company become certified ECORESPONSIBLE Level 1: Engagement issued by Ecocert and become more sustainable. WATERAX was one of 20 small and medium-sized businesses selected to participate in a city of Montreal initiative to promote sustainable development. With the increase in forest fires worldwide there can be no doubt that global warming is having a profound effect on our business. WATERAX is now committed to playing a positive role in the fight against climate change while pursuing long-term growth. We commit to the continual improvement of our social and environmental impact, while ensuring the sustainability and economic viability of our business.

I ADOPTED A DOLPHIN

IMG_4684-1-2-1.jpg

Oceana campaigns around the world to protect dolphins and other marine mammals. The symbolic adoption supports their proven campaigns to prevent dolphin deaths as bycatch in fisheries; stop the expansion of new offshore drilling, oil spills and seismic airgun blasting; and defend landmark legislation that ensures dolphins receive the protections they need. All donations go toward making our world's oceans healthier and safer, for generations to come.

I CREATED A BIRTHDAY FUNDRAISER FOR MISSION BLUE

Mission Blue Fundraiser

For my birthday this year, I asked for donations to Mission Blue. I chose this nonprofit because their mission means a lot to me.

I created this fundraiser because I think that  #TogetherWeCan 🌊 create healthy oceans for a better future. For my birthday and for #WorldOceansDay, let's celebrate & honor the ocean, which connects us all.  Let’s keep the ocean clean for the mermaids and all living things.

I STAND WITH THE GUARDIANS OF THE FOREST

Amazin Greenpeace

Fires have always been a threat to the Amazon, but the number of fire outbreaks in 2019 is one of the largest in recent years. Home to many Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities, the world's largest rainforest is vital for keeping our climate stable. But with industrial exploitation and forest fires ravaging the region, the Amazon is facing unprecedented threats by a greedy industry backed by Bolsonaro’s government.

Tell Bolsonaro’s government to save the Amazon Rainforest and protect the lands of Indigenous and traditional communities. Add your name today.

I SIGNED THE 30x30 FOR NATURE PETITION

Petition+image_2-01.jpg

Leading scientists worldwide have determined that we need to protect at least 30% of our blue planet by 2030. World Oceans Day joins with many organizations on this important initiative. By signing the petition you are telling world leaders that you want action too! Working together we can protect our blue planet home for all!

This year, we have an opportunity to get governments worldwide to agree to protect at least 30% of the planet's land and ocean by 2030, and preserve intact ecosystems and wilderness at the Convention on Biodiversity COP15 Summit in October 2020.
